France Day 2

Evans had a great idea and signed us up for this cab cruise type of thing. It involves a tour of Paris in a cab, dinner, boat cruise, and some live show.

May 25, 2002 - 1st part of the tour

The cab driver came to pick us up. Luckily he spoke very good English. He dropped us off at this river boat cruise. I was excited to be on the river that I saw from the Eiffel Tower.

I said it once but I'll say it again. The buildings here are beautiful. We floated by the Eiffel Tower again, a couple low key museums, and Notre Dame. This was my first time seeing it period. Unless you count cartoons. I WILL go in there. I want to see it badly. I want to walk where Napoleon walked and Henry the VI and the Queen of France. How many times can you say you've been in a building that's over 800 years old? Things like that don't exist in the USA. Our country is too young. I didn't really get it before. It's really incredible to think something has been around for so long and is still standing.

We also saw a miniature Statue of Liberty. They told us about the history and why they gave it to the USA. They liked us once. I wonder what happened.

2nd part of the tour

The cab driver drove us around Paris and showed us all the hip hangout spots. Let me say this, you think people drive bad where you live? Bad drivers have nothing on the French. For starters there are no lanes. There is no order at all. It's safer to walk which might be why everyone is so skinny here. Of course it could be all the smoking.

3rd part of the tour

The cabby is dropping us off at a show. Before I say where were went I have to explain how he parallel parked the cab. There was a spot I thought no way he could fit into. He was going for it anyway. What do I know? I can't drive yet. Well he's backing in and bumps the car behind him. He goes forward and bumps that car too! He keeps going back and forth bumping both cars until he is finally in. We could not stop laughing! I thought it was a normal thing but the people standing and staring in shock told me a different story. We're just lucky I guess. :)

So this big show we saw was... get this... Moulin Rouge! http://www.moulinrouge.fr/
The movie came out not too long ago so I was excited to see how it was now. It's not a kid show that's for sure, but it wasn't pornographic either like I assumed. There were a lot of comedy. Some things I didn't understand, but didn't really need to. There was a lot of funny visuals. I'm sad no photos were allowed, but we got some souvenirs.

Last part of the tour

When we came out there was our cabby. He walked us down to the corner where our restaurant had us booked for dinner. It was very romantic. I'm just not that type of girl but I felt very gushy in my heart. I don't know what we ate, but I didn't care. I'm still slightly in shock that we're here right now. There was candle lights and champagne. Very lovely and all but I kinda wanted a coke.

We're in the hotel now. It was a lovely day and I'm very happy we did this. Tomorrow we're going to do our own thing and see how it goes.
