Burrow's Meet Evans'

January 15-26

Well Eric and I know we're going to get married. We don't know where or when yet, but we do know the parents should meet. The in-laws flew in to El Paso which is about an hour and a half away. Everyone is staying in a hotel since we only have a one room apartment. It's actually still very much a bachelor pad. He spent about 9 months here before I even arrived. A year is a LONG time to be apart! Wow I lost track didn't I?

The next day we decided to drive to Roswell. It looks nothing like the tv show I must say. It actually looks like Alamogordo! Everything seems to be alien themed. We visited a few museums that claimed to have authentic military documents with data on alien life forms. However, just being out of the Army and being extremely familiar with the handling of classified documents both past and present I can safely say the documents were all fake. I was a little disappointed though.

We actually saw more grocery stores than museums. Eric's mom has worked for Albertsons for many years so it seemed pretty important to visit every one we came across. I'm ok with that! I have lots of quarters specifically for the machines that spit out Mr. Happy stickers.

The next day my parents show up with my grandma and my cat. They drove in. I can't imagine driving from Fresno with a cat! We took our parents up to Ruidoso. It's a beautiful little city up in the mountains. It's strange really. We live on the bottom of the mountain where it's hot and there's often dust storms. Only 45 minutes away is Ruidoso where it's cold, snow-covered and is frankly a lot like a forest. On the way home we visited the Inn of the Mountain Gods which is an Indian Casino. My family is big on tossing in a few bucks on machines, but mostly we love the buffet! it's weird. We have enough Native American in our blood to get a free fishing license, it's too bad we can't get in on this casino stuff. Too much white man in our blood I suppose. :)

My parents can't stay long. They purpose that I ride back with them and fly back. Good idea! I didn't go home to Fresno after the Army so here's my chance to say goodbyes. Hook slept in my arms the whole way while staring out the window. Fresno was good, as always. I miss my family. They rock. I also miss my church family.

I think a lot of people don't understand the importance of a church family. I grew up in church. I went to church just as long as I went to grade school. In grade school friends come and go. You move on to a new class every year and sometimes never see your favorite people ever again. You always get a new teachers. But in church you grow up with the same people. Much like your family, they never leave. The bonds with these type of people are very strong. Every parent should be involved in a church like this one. But when things change in this environment it is very hard to deal with. It's weird not being there. I had a good visit. I missed the sound of Sister Holman jamming on the piano and Pastor on his trumpet. He doesn't pull it out often, but when he does... it rocks!

Well, I'm back in my new home now in Alamogordo. Eric had a great visit with his parents.
